I went tonight for dinner. I read reviews a I heard from a friend that the food was good. I sat at the bar with my boyfriend. We ordered drinks and while we were ordering out food from one bartender, another bartender was using a shaker to make a drink. He must not have made sure the shaker was sealed tight because me and my boyfriend got splashed with the drink he was making. He turned around and looked but he did not apologize. The bartender taking our order said sorry, but the one who actually splashed up did not. We ordered the pretzel bread to share, I ordered the shrimp and grits and my boyfriend ordered the swordfish. My shrimp and grits were pretty good. The pretzel bread was delicious, but my boyfriends swordfish was small and a little dry. Not to mention it was 29 dollars for his plate, which was not worth the price at all. The best part of the meal was the pretzel bread, but the entrees, in my opinion, were overpriced.

What a great place!!! Their salad person has to be the best in the business. Great salads. Salt is as good as it gets.

Everyone at my table of 11 seemed to enjoy their meals. Especially their shrimp and grits. Though, I think their menu changes monthly so don't go with that expectation. The burger was yummy and huge (cooked how I asked) and the fries were standard. Yet, delicious. My only complaint is the server was kind of rude. I guess she thought she was too good or that we weren't good enough. I hate this mentality. Especially when I get to decide the gratuity. I would recommend this place! They do offer free valet. Handy when it's a busy night and you can't find street parking. You can take your key from the guy and/or see you car from the restaurant if you aren't a valet-type person. Would come here again! Also, beware if you aren't the adventurous type when it comes to food there isn't much for you. Like I said the menu changes. There is plenty of seafood and they are happy to take or add things to your meal. I ended up with a hamburger without the mentioned fontal (cheese).

A great place if you're on vacation, and even worth the trip out of downtown Charleston so you can see the barrier islands and the different vibe they have. Driving up to Salt at Station 22, it takes you back to another place, though most of the Charleston area does. There's a lot of character in the location and the building across from Poe's Tavern. The dining rooms had good atmosphere, and we loved the open windows and the indoor/outdoor bar. The crowd was a good mix, not all families and not all people drinking. We had a group of 7 and were treated very well, but the service was a little ordinary, but polite. I had brown shrimp/wreckfish ceviche with yucca chips for a starter. Great textures, flavor, and balance, though I probably could have used more heat. Everyone adored their appetizers and the portions were generous. I had the swordfish with a butter bean, sausage, and mirepoix base for an entree. It exceeded my expectations. The texture was good, fish was perfectly cooked. Loved the chocolate hazelnut cake, and it was small enough to enjoy without overdoing it. The cocktails were adequate, but not quite as good as the food, but I'm hard to please in that category.

SALT at Station 22 is aptly named: a little of it goes a long way; it's ALL CAPS to match the noise level, and the staff could use way more seasoning. Our experience was best summed up by a local on our way out. He said "Next time you should go to _______,. Everybody likes that better than this place." Good advice.

This was a great meal .. We went to visit out great friends that lived close to the Resturant and it was Resturant week. A set menu for 30 bucks and what a meal from the friendly staff to the bartender. We had the ceviche and being from Miami that's a tricky dish to make and they did an amazing job!! Excellent flavor . Wish I was there now for the great salmon dish I had , my husband had the fried chicken amazing !! That's my review. Go check it out.

A big disappointment ! Agree with other reviews that the Swordfish was dry and a very small portion for the price. Pizza was blah , not much flavor. Other entrees such as pastas were ok but nothing special. Bottom line , stick to the bar and don't bring your family here for dinner. All the great choices in the Charleston area , SALT doesn't measure up.

Great food, great service, great prices. This place blows away everything in the vicinity away. They did a great job rehabing the place. A great place for a drink, apps and dinner... Well done! We loved it.

Unfortunately, the menu changes very often. I wish any reader to be able to get the following: I tried the asparagus soup with smoked salmon and the dips with home made chips. The soup tasted so good and was so well presented i even took a picture. The fish dip tasted very fresh, the addition of peppers made it very tasteful and an interesting palate experience, The restaurant looks really nice and the service was doing everything possible to make us happy. A little higher class than expected, it s casual chic without being too fancy.

Very delicious. Had a bottle of pinot noir with some ceviche as a start. Then had a super delicious black pasta entree. Everything was fantastic. The wait staff was absolutely amazing too. Our waitress knew so much about how old each meal was and how everything is farm to table. She was actually able to tell us how long the ceviche was marinating in the lemon juice. This place is worth trying out.

Dorado and shrimp ceviche was outstanding. Wow. The yam chips and sauce were fab!!! Really loved the linguini with little neck clams were equally delicious. Although it would have been better with a slice of bread. That was the problem all night. Our waitress was so unaccommodating we just laughed it off later. We had a table of 8 that spent around $400 but could we get a little bread. No. And there was a wine bottle special for $15. We were told Pinot gri and when she got back it was a Chardonnay which nobody wanted. She would not trade for another Pinot . We did have a vegetarian with us that asked for something and waitress just did not handle well At the end of the night we really just wrote off the waitress who I am betting is not new. She is just not good at customer service. At the table 6 of 8 of us were super happy with our meal and the other two were satisfied but we really all thought the service was bad. I hope this is not the norm. I am glad I used yelp for some ideas because she was not helpful. So get the ceviche, little neck clam linguini, the flounder fish n chips, skip the steak and hope you don't end up with our waitress. I am local and brought out of town guests. Next time will eat at bar.

Always amazing. One of my favorite places to go. The service is second to none unless they are CRAZY busy. The food is always amazing. Love the blue crab beignets, the cerviche, and any entree with sweet corn in it. I love the staff - they are super friendly and always attentive. I always know I will have a great experience there. I take my out of town friends and meet my girl friends there all the time. Great spot

If I could give this place zero stars I would. In town visiting friends and my wife's friends husband was asked to leave the bar due to his beach tank top. I'm not positive if we were singled out with our NY accents but after being given menus and an introduction one would think this new dress code would have been mentioned prior to being seated. I can find more upscale establishments without a snooty bar staff. When we were on our way out since apparently men's tanks were completely barred from the restaurants we came across two other men in the same attire. We won't be back and will tell anyone of our "northern" friends to not give business to this place either. Such a shame was looking forward to giving this place a chance since it was the least busiest in the area.

My husband and I tried SALT tonight for Restaurant Week. Overall, nice place with good food, but I felt compelled to write my first ever review on Yelp due to a negative experience. 1. We had a reservation for 6:15pm Saturday night. When we arrived the restaurant was not very crowded, yet we were sat at a tiny table in the corner, by a busy door to the porch and had an area with water and other items which the wait staff came by frequently which was distracting. 2. The Restaurant Week menu at charlestonrestaurantasso… did not match what was being served at the restaurant. We had chosen SALT because there was something specific I wanted to try, but it was not being offered when we went. It would be helpful if they noted that the menu would change daily. 3. I had soup as an appetizer, but when it was served by the kitchen runner I did not receive a spoon. When my waiter realized this he said he would get me one, but then went to assist other customers before he got back to me. I sat for about 5 minutes with soup in front of me before receiving the appropriate utensil to eat it with. 4. The food was good. I don't eat seafood, so I had the short ribs, which were very tasty. My husband had the shrimp and grits which he said were Ok. No complaints about the food except maybe a little over priced. 5. I was half way done my meal when the runner brought dessert out. He did not seem to find it odd that I was still in the middle of enjoying my meal, but now have warm peach cobbler with cold ice cream melting in front of me too. (I didn't get a spoon with this course either). When the waiter came by and saw this he acknowledged that the desert was brought out a little early.. So I opted for a to-go box for my meal before my ice cream completely melted and had no spoon to eat it with.. I had higher hopes for SALT.. They are in a great location with a nice atmosphere, but unfortunately they did not live up to my expectations.

This place was recommended by a local. So we made it a point to hit it. Reservations for large parties. The food was excellent, especially the crab beignet. The service was surprisingly slow. It took awhile for refills and actually getting orders placed. Our server seemed overwhelmed. I will be back for more great food!

Almost didn't go for dinner, we'd heard mixed reviews of the food. Glad we ignored those reviews. The food and service were great. Had the tomato watermelon salad which was so unique and tasty - then shared a pizza. Was pleasantly surprised and will definitely go back.

We have been to SALT several times. The ceviche is excellent, but our favorite dish is the whole fried sea bass (sometimes it's redfish). It Is fabulous, and the cole slaw is excellent also. Even enjoyed the cottage fries, and I'm not usually a fan. The bar area inside and out is a fun place to sit, but the other rooms need some serious work on the decor. Very drab and dark. We have also enjoyed their fish sandwich, a huge portion.

One of the best places we have eaten at in Charleston. Pans eared Salmon--excellent, perfectly cooked. Crispy on the top yet absolutely tender, juicy and flavorful. Hard to achieve with salmon. This shows a very high level of attention to detail in the kitchen. The portion was small but maybe because it was restaurant week menu. There was only one piece of bacon (lardon really) so that was week. The sides were terrific (brussl sprout, cauliflower) and there was a very tasty cream sauce. If you order this dish on a normal week, it is $27 which is too high IMHO. Overall, excellent. Ceviche-good if you like ceviche I guess. Served in a broth like a soup. The broth was reminiscent of mild an delicately flavored thai coconut soup. Served with sweet potato chips (like the snack food you get in a bag--weird choice for a fancy restaurant). I am not a big ceviche fan. I just ordered it to be adventurous. Next time (and there will be a next time) I will order the cream of mush soup instead, which sounds awesome with creme freche. Dessert: Some kind of chocalate cake with hazelnut with fresh whipped cream anglais. The desert was forgettable. My wife order three sides for her dinner: Brown butter whipped sweet potatoes--this was fantastic--were getting two orders next time. Leek cauliflower gratin--really good. String beans with cipollini onions. Meh. The sides were served in small cast iron skillets and were very well prepared. Service--excellent all around. My wife has a gluten and nut allergy. They did a great job accommodating her. Atmosphere--needs help. It is too dark. Paint all the woodwork white and get some contemporary light fixtures. This would go a long way. Bonus--nice background music . . . but the restaurant was quite--even during an AFC play off game. Overall, a terrific restaurant. It is clear that the kitchen really cares about the food. You can feel the love. The main thing is that I wish there were a few more affordable options. It would be nice to come here more often without dropping a mint.

Just moved here from California so we went to a revitalized version of a restaurant my girl friend used to work at. This place exceeded my expectation. Great staff, charming owner and amazing food. Definitely recommend the blue crab beignets and the homemade coconut cake for dessert. Menu changes often, but everything our group ordered was Great!

3.5 stars. Crab beignets are amazing. Blow your mind good. Pizza was awful and I literally just picked the toppings off to eat. Crust was soggy and tough. Drinks were overpriced but good. Slow service similar to other reviews on yelp.

Salt is an ideal mix of Charleston food snobbery (I say that with affection and respect) and laid-back beach nonchalance. The small touches are great: home-y bar set up, sea salt scrub in the ladies' room. The remodel does involve dramatic red pendant lighting over the raw bar, which lends a Fangtasia vibe upstairs, but folks seem to dig it. Plenty of outdoor seating to boot.

Wow! What a great new place in Sullivan's! They atmosphere is great. Bar extends from inside to the great outside front porch on good weather days. We went twice on our last trip to SC. It was restaurant week so we expected the portions to be small since we were getting a deal. Boy were we wrong. We all started with the wedge salad. The blue cheese dressing was lite and perfect. Salad was almost a whole head of lettuce and it was delicious. We had the grouper entree and it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Veggies and farro were also great. Dessert was a chocolate cake with amaretto. It was also delicious but a little heavy after such a big meal. We came back for a drink and appetizer the next night. Had the crab beignets. They were out if this world!! You have to try them Service was great. Beers were a little pricey, especially since you can get the same ones across the street for $4! Go here. You won't be disappointed!

Growing up in Charleston, we're accustomed to a certain level of service. Whenever someplace new opens up, we always hope that it will represent Charleston well. Unfortunately, SALT at Station 22 failed to deliver. When we first arrived, there were three or four employees standing around the outside bar who failed to greet us. We were then promptly ignored by everyone until we made it inside to the hostess station where three lovely ladies were just standing around. Once we initiated the conversation, we were shown to our table. Once we were seated, the restaurant continued the trend of ignoring us. After having to ask two separate people to send our waiter our way, if only to get water, our waiter finally appeared. He tried asking us by a show of hands who wanted water, and then just gave up and brought everyone a glass to figure out individual orders later. We were so annoyed with how slow the service was, we quickly decided what we would like so we could order the next time he came around. We ordered several appetizers to stave off the hunger while we waited for dinner. After probably 15 or 20 minutes, and asking two or three times, they finally brought out our food but had some issues deciphering who had ordered what. The food was delicious. 15 minutes after they brought the appetizers, well after we finished eating, the food arrived. Again, the service suffered the same issue of determining who ordered what. I ordered the steak, it was absolutely delicious, the one reason the restaurant wasn't given a single star rating. Unfortunately, some of the food was unevenly cooked and one fish entree had to be sent back because it wasn't completely cooked through. That entree took another 15 minutes to return. The kitchen, realizing that they had "done goofed," sent out another of the appetizers we had ordered to our party to try and make up for the wait, however the entree was brought to the table no more than a minute after the appetizer appeared. By that point, the person waiting wasn't even hungry so we just had it boxed up for lunch tomorrow. The kitchen, still trying to regain our good favor, gave us two desserts, a chocolate cake with espresso mousse and a delicious peach cobbler. All in all, our dinner ran about $50 per person, not including the two desserts and extra appetizer sent to the table. Only two drinks were ordered the entire night and most of us split appetizers with each other. For this sort of price, we really would expect a much higher level of service and a better representation of Charleston dining.

Seriously. 5 stars. Killer wine list. We enjoyed 2 bottles (twenty benches Cab, and a Syrah). Delish. Small dishes (apps) included a brilliant rendition of pretzel bread and mustard and cheese sauces and a fresh and crunchy Margherita pizza. The whole table loved that, from 7 year old to 70 year old. The side salads (not on the menu) was a nice add. Entrees were out of the ballpark good. My 7 yr old loved her plain pasta w butter an freshly shaved Parmesan, 3 house hamburgers were enjoyed (my eleven year old liked his plate), one oyster raw bar platter, which was explained in detail where each were from ( and to a Maryland native, that was impressive), and I had the heirloom tomatoes and homemade croutons (yumm) and grouper and shrimp cakes in a skillet w buttery caper sauce. To die for. I bought a t shirt. Wait. Desserts, were coconut cake and Peach and blueberry cobbler w bourbon ice cream. Enough. Said.

Well we were seated at a table right behind the hostess stand. Interesting table, we were fine with it. But it took at least 10-12 mins before anyone approached the table to greet us or ask if we wanted something. We did ask the hostess if we were going to see a server or not. We actually had two others join us which was nice. After finally being greeted and asking the server for cocktail onions in our martini. She had no idea what we were talking about and asked if we wanted a plate of raw onions or grilled. Server 101 you should know about cocktail onions. We did order some drinks and they finally arrived. Started with some oysters which were fantastic. We ordered some small plates for our main meal and our other guests ordered burgers. One of the worst things is when food arrives and is auctioned off to the table. Everyone should know there seat numbers when approaching a table with food. Most of the food that came out was cold. At that time it was hard to get the server to check back and we were hungry. We had to ask twice for the beers that we had ordered. Overall the food was just OK. I would go back for the oysters though. The service needs to improve for sure. Beverage knowledge, using seat numbers and greeting a table in a timely manner would be much appreciated. The valet team was very nice and fast to get our vehicle.

Wow how far they have come since their 2013 opening!! Wonderful drinks, and the apps were amazing... Blue crab beignets!! Husband and I had seafood. His fish was perfect and my scallops with homemade lemon pasta devine. One child had steak, one had pizza. Everyone happy! Even enjoyed delicious dessert.

We loved our visit to Salt! The vibe is relaxed but cool. It was busy and prefers if you call ahead for a reservation. But they found us a table and we had some delicious local seafood. I had the grouper over fresh corn and it was the best fish I have had in a long time and very well prepared. Great service. GO!

That's Fudged Up! You know what I really mean. The fish is incredibly fresh, service is good -- try the blue crab beignet apps for the table -- and the deserts excellent (more to come on that). The chef has a great ability for making a very crisp skin on his fish -- my brother-in-law and I enjoyed the local Wreckfish on rice with an incredible broth (they don't have bread here ???? -- but when I asked, they brought me out some toast). My wife and sister enjoyed the loch salmon, farm-raised, (I know, but is is Scottish, so it's not crap!) with brussel sprouts and caramelized cauliflower. The crescendo to the evening was the desert. I wish I had pics -- we had a great bread pudding, but this thing with the donuts is absolutely messed up. I told the waitress it was f ed up and I meant it. The thing was absolutely over-the-top delicious and monstrous -- it would put a diabetic in their grave! A must try. They are fairly new and they really should have bread to sop up all the deliciousness. That's the only negative. Can't stop thinking about that desert.

We went here on the recommendation of locals and were not disappointed. Started out with oysters on half shell, pretzel bread, and blue crab beignets. Oysters were crisp and chilled perfectly and shucked meticulously, accompanied with cocktail and mignonette sauces. Crab beignets had a good consistency and crab flavor (not fried dough-flavored like many beignets or fritters). For main entrees we ordered Black Grouper with little neck clams and succotash (flavor was similar to a light corn chowder), half farmhouse chicken with whipped sweet potatoes, and the bistro steak. All were prepared perfectly - fish and chicken were moist while crisp and firm on the outside. Sweet potatoes were so good it was like eating a sweet potato pie. Beef was prepared spot-on medium rare. For dessert, we ordered the banana bread pudding and it was delicious. Assuming service issues posted by other reviewers were a glitch since the restaurant has only been open for a month or so. The service we experienced was attentive and prompt. Looking forward to our next visit here. Too bad not open for lunch, too!

Lunch today, the perfect poached egg, and good crab cake. Service fabulous, darling Bethany and Bob. Great Bloody Mary. Not cheap but on vacation, I would rather pay more and not be disappointed. The decor has some flaws. White grouted subway tiles, big mistake. Bathroom is lackluster, needs a place to hang your purse and put the towels which are practically falling into the sink. The place needs some "showpiece" appointments, but the craftsmanship of the remodel is very good.

My family has come to Charleston numerous times over the past 25 years. We have found some truly amazing places to eat, some of which have come and gone. The Holy City will always hold its charm for us, but we have started to explore some of the surrounding areas. Salt is fantastic. If you are staying in the Charleston area, please take the opportunity to go there. Everything from the raw bar to dessert was great. The only problem we had was a mix-up of our reservations. The staff worked hard to get us to a table within 20 minutes. Not bad considering they had guests lining the street. Once we were seated the owner apologetically asked us to move one table over. No big deal, but he insisted on buying us two appetizers. If he hadn't, we would never have tried the ceriche. Their strong suit is serving fresh seafood with well balanced accompaniments that enhance, but dont take away from the fresh seafood. They also dont skimp on portions. Please treat yourself and go there. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because some people ignore those as pure fluffery.

This restaurant hops. Between locals and tourists, the place generates a lot of energy, yet it still delivers quality meals. The flounder-based fish and chips are light, flavorful and generous. The summer slaw is not your typical mayo-based creamed sugary mess. It is made with fresh corn, cilantro, and a fruit vinegar that is light on the palate. The swordfish is served on a bed of ratatouille, which complements the delicate flavor of the grilled fish. The service was attentive without being obtrusive. All in all, it was a really good meal.

Who can believe my wife and college age son just stumbled on this place while visiting Charleston. This was the best meal I had in the 5 days in Charleston area by far. We went for lunch and had oysters, fish sandwiches baked goat cheese and more. I may not go back since I do not live there, but if I ever visit Charleston again, I will go out of my way to eat there. Owner and wait staff extremely friendly...and chef rocks!

Food was OK...some in our party loved it and some didn't. However, the service was really slow. We were told by Poe's, across the street, that this was a great alternative. We disagree. We were sat in the bar area, which was not family friendly. Not impressed at all.

Dunleavy's is gonna have to wait. The power of the on-street sandwich-board ad can not be underestimated. On my way to Dunleavy's for lunch, I had to walk by the $7 Bottomless Mimosa billing out front of Station 22. Done. The Mimosa's were very good. I started with a bowl of She-crab soup. Not bad, with hunks of real crab meat (verified by the shell pieces) and some roe. I'd suggest a bit more meat. The rest of the soup was very good, with the hint of sherry noticeable at the right level. My grilled Mahi-Mahi sandwich was a little above average. There were some dry parts of the fish, but the dressing made up for it. The wife's spinach salad with goat cheese was a salad. Nothing special. Service was friendly and attentive. The inside looks pleasant, the bar looks small but inviting. The outdoor seating option is tremendous for a busy area of Sullivan's Island, but beware the summer heat.

Had an early dinner and really enjoyed it. The shrimp and grits were perfect and the sushi was awesome. The artichoke and blue crab dip is cold and refreshing. The key lime pie is homemade and a must! Really reasonably priced.

This review is for their Sunday brunch. I came with a large group after a beach weekend. We were seated right away inside (there is also porch seating). It's a casual, but upscale atmosphere. For such a large group, it did take a little while to get our food. The french toast was great. The sausage seemed a little burnt, but still tasted good. A friend got some bacon that was really fatty and chewy. The service was great. The waitress was very attentive and easily handled our large group with multiple check splitting requests. Overall, I would probably try to find another place for brunch the next time I'm in the area just to experiment, but I wouldn't mind trying this place again for another meal.

We go here, without fail, on every visit. Upon entering, there's a sign regarding children which reads something along the lines of "please mind your children, otherwise we'll give them a puppy and coffee". We've never needed a reservation, even for a group of 10. Prompt, friendly service. Sometimes there's live music too. The bread basket is filled with broiled cheesy bread which is easy to fill up on before the meal arrives (but keeps children busy). Start with the house salad and fried oysters (there are healthier items on the menu also). Half our table always orders the whole fried flounder, which is amazing. Perfectly fried, never greasy. We like sauce on the side, and I have a tendency to eat the tips of the tail because they're yummy. I ordered mussels the last time we were there, which were good. Wines by the glass are $8-12. The lemon coconut cake is enormous, and large enough for 2. We generally get at least one slice to take back and eat around midnight. A good place with prompt, friendly service.

Went here as alternative to Poe's because it was packed. spring break. sat out on the porch. just a few other tables. i had a salad and fried green tomatoes, very good. good service. had the skinny margarita, very small for $7. my husband had the scallops which were fine. I had the key lime pie. good but missing the tarty key-limeness it should have. it was overall fine, but not worth the $50 check.

Sunday Brunch: "Just OK" pretty much sums up my first and only experience here. We had three people at our table and our Sunday brunch bill totaled $45. Had the portion sizes been more then generous, or the food been even slightly better then average, this would be an acceptable amount. However, the portion sizes were slightly smaller then we were used to and all of our meals were lackluster. We did have phenomenal service from a very pregnant waitress who we all marveled about how she had the energy to stay on top of all of our beverages as well as she did. They serve brunch until 2 on Sundays, which is nice if you're like us that day and roll out of bed late. I you are looking for a new place to try, on are contemplating purchasing a discount gift certificate to Station 22 online, I would suggest saving your money. There are too many excellent restaurants in Charleston so settle for a place that is just average.

This place looks like a crummy beach bar on the outside. On the inside, it looks like an upscale beach bar. But don't be deceived. This place has utterly brilliant seafood. I asked the waitress for recommendations, and she said to get the crab cakes or the fried flounder in apricot glaze. I went with the flounder, my girlfriend got the crab cakes. The latter was good, the former was the best seafood I have had in a very long time. The fish was perfectly cooked, perfectly crispy on the outside. The glaze it came in was superb. I was in love with the dish. I came here with a party of 6, and we called ahead to put our name in. Everyone really enjoyed their food. The next time I'm in the area, I will eat here again. And again.

We wanted to try Station 22 and then Poe's Tavern. We like to graze at various restaurants.....appetizer/drinks, then move on for an entree and then move on somewhere else for dessert. We pulled in to park across the street in their parking lot and the drunk PARKING NAZI comes flying out stating we could not park there unless were were eating in Station 22. We tried to explain we wanted to stroll around, look at the menu and try Station 22 but we hadn't decided on whether we wanted appetizers or entree. He said we could not park there! WTF? So we pulled out of his nearly empty parking lot and pulled into a parking space smack dab in front of Station 22. We walked over to the Poe Tavern and had just about the BEST HAMBURGER of my life and fries!!! AVOID STATION 22 and eat at POE'S for terrific food and friendly staff!!!!

Solid place and great, fun location. Great sushi selections although limited. Wreckfish is great - lots of fresh options. Try the Jalapeño Margarita has a kick for sure.

This was a really innovative restaurant with a very creative chef. The owners (same as the Boat House) have reverted to form after losing original chef and are serving tired and not very interesting food. It's not terrible but not nearly as good as it once was. I'm really sorry this has happened. There are too many amazing places to eat in Charleston area to waste your time and money on a 3 star boring faire. I just lowered rating to a two star. We went back as we really want this place so near our home to succeed. The service Is still good but (I know this is food snobby) if you have added corn dogs to your menu I don't really want to eat in your restaurant. What's next funnel cake and fried butter for dessert. Give me a break.

Food & service not so hot - though the bride was uncomfortably warm. Such a different experience than last year, which offered surprisingly good chicken livers, which I really liked a lot. This visit, it seemed to be a lot of fried food and marinated not grilled chicken as the menu suggested. I played it safe with Caesar salad with not-grilled chicken. The montepulciano tasted had overtones of dirt and an almost sandy finish. Skip it unless you are desperate

I am writing this review based on a five star caliber, including 5 components to its makeup: taste, presentation, service, cost, atmosphere. The actual food here tastes good and the seasoning is fairly balanced, but the portions were much smaller than expected, and even after asking the waitress about our dishes prior to eating, and the presentation did not match up. Pasta was overcooked, salads were too small, and the food was served as if it was sitting out. It was less than impressive when our plates came and that's not the feeling you want to have before eating an expensive meal. Even worse, the waitress was not responsive, and did not seem to really care about serving us. We spoke to the manager about our general feelings and he honestly didn't give a shit. For what the service and food was, ultimately this place is over priced even for a beachfront seafood restaurant. Better skipping through to another friendlier enjoyable atmosphere if you want seafood. The fancy brand name and hype couldn't live up to the lived experience.

I think my shrimp were good. I ordered the lemon thyme seasoning. The asparagus was delicious and cooked well. I also had the grueyere mac and cheese and it was just ok. Could have more cheese and more flavor. There was an interesting hint of Clove or all spice in the mac and cheese though. I couldn't pin point it. Our service was great but they weren't busy. My friend said her blackened Mahi was great. She cleaned her plate so her cole slaw and grits must have been great. The atmosphere is great and the place is beautiful on the inside.

Food was pretty good but not great. Oysters good but were more expensive than at other places (for the same kind, Blue Points). Caesar Salad was mediocre. Had looked on Yelp at pictures but some of the things that Yelp reviews had said were a must have were no longer on the menu. The biggest plus was that there really is something for everyone...seafood, salad, burgers, pizza, even sushi.

Stopped by for happy hour with Tim. We weren't hungry as we had just come from the farmers market, but we were happy to down a few $2 Shock Tops. Staff was great as our bartender said "can't beat that" and I responded, "Well, they could be $1.98." He proceeded to take our four pennies out of his pocket and put them in the bar. Awesome. He found two more pennies when we ordered our next beer. When we closed our tab, we felt like 6 cents was the perfect tip. Actually, we left a good tip and then threw a few pennies at the bartender. I love a bar staff with a good sense of humor. Thanks, Baby Chris!

I think Salt takes it's name a little too literally. I went here on a weeknight with a group of six. This location is pretty neat and actually has a very nice outdoor seating area. Salt really lacks in the food department though. Starting with the variety of raw oysters. While the gentlemen working behind the oyster bar were very friendly, our group agreed that the oysters were not cleaned well and ended up with an unusual amount of shell pieces and sand in our mouths. With that aside, I ordered the shrimp and grits and my boyfriend ordered the salmon burger with fries.. This is where the name of the restaurant really becomes humorous.. My food was so salty, I could only take a few bites at a time before needing to drink water to relieve that burning sensation on my tongue. My boyfriend complained that his food was exactly the same way. Neither of us finished our meals, which by the way, each entree was over $20 a piece. If you're vacationing in the area.. I would only recommend Salt for the cocktails and atmosphere, otherwise save yourself the expensive tab and go to another seafood restaurant.

Awesome restaurant on Sullivan Island. Get the Shrimp corn dog app. It is so so good. Also they had a sushi tempura app that was to die for. For dinner get anything off the fish board and make sure to get grits as one of your two sides.

My friends visited us and we took them to Salt. To say I was embarrassed is an understatement. I am a local and do expect our local restaurants to be somewhat consistent. The food was too salty. My friend did not touch her fries they were salted so heavily. My she crab soup was almost cold. My husband did not get what he ordered. We had to ask 3 times for drinks to be brought to our table. When they finally arrived our friends had finished dinner and were ready to go. Dissapointed. There is an award winning competitor down the street. Why will I go here the next time?

Updating my past SALT review! SALT closed this past winter and head chef is no longer there. The quality has drastically declined. Now the menu is an odd mix of pizza and sushi. I wish I could say their downtime made for a better restaurant but the things we had grown to love are no longer on the menu. At least they still have Salty Bear cocktails. Go to Obstinate Daughter for dinner and come to Salt for after dinner drinks only. The service at the bar area has always been excellent.

Very disappointed! As a local I was so excited to go to a newly opened restaurant by the same owners as my FAVORITE restaurant, Boathouse! But needless to say I was very let down and will not be retuning any time shortly. My boyfriend and I went to dinner tonight very excited from all the positive things we had heard, but we were very disappointed in our experience. After having a reservation we still waited to be seated, when we finally sat it was 20 minutes before being greeted, getting a glass of water, catching any ones attention to get service. Then we finally got served, did not get a run down of the menu nor heard about the specials the woman whose main role was not a server, took our order and sped off. We never got a refill on our water and were not impressed with the food at all. The shrimp lettuce wraps were literally shrimp cocktail lacking marinade or dressing on a piece of lettuce. The atmosphere was awesome just very let down by the service and cuisine.

Barely worthy of a review. "It wasn't awful" is the nicest thing I can say. Overpriced, bland, uninspired food. Stars are for the location (primo spot on sullivans main drag).

This place needs more stars. Absolutely delicious. We had the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer which were firm and delicious, the goat cheese added an extra dimension. I had the chef special Amberjack in a white clam sauce with vegetables and it was fantastic. My Dad had the Salt burger and said it was as good burger as you could ask for. My brother had the fried shrimp and said, "they give you real shrimp fried not those popper shrimp." We sat on the porch and were seated immediately at around 6:30 and had phenomenal service and our food arrived within 20 minutes of ordering. We will definitely be back.

Horrible service, horrible managment, and dreadful portion sizes for the price you pay! Charleston has way to many amazing places to dine to waste your time with this disappointment!! Worst part of our trip by far!

Decent meal- A bit overpriced - Mediocre service Overpriced wine. If I wanted to spend 160 on dinner- I would head downtown. Get over yourself.... Boring.

This restaurant was very good. We got peel your own shrimp and half-shelled oysters and they were very fresh! We also got steamed clams and they were sitting in a delicious relish like sauce. I got a salt burger that was perfectly cooked, and the pickles were super fresh. I'm not giving 5 stars because one person in my party got the margarita pizza that was just okay and came late. Other than that it was a very good restaurant, and I recommend the fresh seafood as it was amazing! Would totally return!

Nice bar and great food! I highly recommend the chicken and Mac and cheese, steak, and tile fish (when on the menu)! The calamari sauce was delicious! They were a little less than generous with the calamari though.

This place tops the worst food that I've had in a long time. Let's start -- while visiting the Charleston area for the first time with my wife while visiting my sister, we all decided to stop for some good seafood. We brought our dog along, so we stopped by Salt's and asked if there was outside seating available where we could bring our dog. The hostess responded snobbishly "No", so we asked if takeout was available. After placing our takeout orders at the bar, I waited for over 45 minutes for our food to come out. For $66 for 3 takeout orders, I was expecting a tasty dinner. When we arrived at the nearby beach, the food was cold. Not because it was takeout, but because it appeared to be sitting for at least 20-25 minutes before they brought it out to me. I had the fried shrimp with a side of slaw and Mac and cheese. The shrimp was cold and had a funny aftertaste. I think Kraft EasyMac would have been better than the mac and cheese, and the slaw was the worst I've had -- absolutely no flavor at all. My sister has the crab cakes -- little flavor, and there were bits of crab shells mixed in. I really wish I had fast food instead, and pocketed the extra $50. I've heard the food in Charleston is pretty good; I wish Salt's hadn't ruined my first experience. If you're in the area, avoid this place for the food -- it's tasteless and overpriced.

Salmon wasn't cooked correctly. Scallops were delicious but overpriced. Oyster platter was overpriced. Grits were incredibly bland. Shrimp lettuce wraps were drowning in oil. Fried oysters were pretty good. Service was friendly and prompt. Drinks were so-so.

If there were half stars, I probably would have given SALT 2.5 stars. Dinner fell short of expectation and price. I started of with the Clam Chowder, which was delicious and the highlight of the meal. Friend got the persimmon and pear salad. The pears were rough chopped, too big for the salad, and not ripe, and the salad in general was barely dressed. We both got the grouper. We love grouper and when prepared correctly it's amazing. We both concurred that the sauce was watery/devoid of any flavor and the fish itself had a strong *fishy* taste. When fresh, I know that grouper is not fishy, so that was a big disappointment. Especially since our bill came to over $100 for two, with only one glass of wine (I stuck with water). We won't be back, and will stick to Poe's when on Sullivan's.

Maybe not a fair review because we only sat at the bar and ordered drinks and a dessert. The service was impeccable. The atmosphere was quiet and refined. The chocolate torte is scrumptious and they have a great selection of local beer. All around, a great experience.

It wasn't a screaming, across the board, amazing meal, but it was pretty dang good! I know some weren't super pleased, but this is my review and my opinion. We went for Restaurant Week but one in our party decided to opt for a burger, which wasn't on the menu. He enjoyed his burger, it was cooked exactly as he ordered (med rare), and his fries were tasty! I have to mention I was impressed that they cooked his burger correctly because so many places fail in cooking a burger to the temperature ordered if it's anything less than medium. For appetizers, I decided to be adventurous and ordered the chicken livers. Two others at the table ordered the sweet corn soup. I've figured out that I'm definitely not a fan of chicken livers HOWEVER, they were pretty good. I can pretty much guarantee if you like chicken livers, you'll LOVE SALT's fried chicken livers. That smoked pepper mayo was very good too. As it stands, I wish I'd been a bit less adventurous and tried the salmon tartare instead lol! The others seemed to enjoy their sweet corn soup but I had several bites and wasn't impressed. The flavor was very one dimensional, bland and almost seemed watered down. For entrees, I ordered the seared Loch Duart salmon which came with a side of roasted corn, sweet peppers, snap peas, basil & smoked bacon. I had to add a touch of salt to my side but otherwise it was tasty. The salmon? DELICIOUS!!!!!! It was sooo good and the skin was perfectly crispy! Seriously one of the best pieces of salmon I've ever had. One person ordered the shrimp and grits, and said it was really good. I had a bite and agreed! Very yummy. My other friend ordered the braised beef short rib w/ whipped sweet potato & grilled vidalia onion. She liked it at first but then lost interest and didn't care for it. I tried both the short rib and the whipped sweet potato. The short rib was tender, savory and delicious. I personally really enjoyed the whipped sweet potatoes (that's specifically what she ended up not liking) but I felt they weren't overly sweet and complimented the short ribs very well. I'm not crazy about grilled onions, but other than that aspect, I'd totally order that dish. For dessert, two of us picked the peach cobbler, one picked the coconut cake. I got to try the coconut cake and agreed that it was way too sweet. It was sweet on sweet layered with sweet, topped with sweet. Just too much! The other two enjoyed the peach cobbler (that's what I picked) but to me the crust tasted doughy. I didn't care for it and have definitely had better. Overall it was hard to rate because there was some average food, but also some amazing bites! I think the livers, if you're a fan of chicken livers, is a fantastic choice, but the soup failed to impress. In general I felt the entrees were good, but the desserts were not. Truly I'd give this more of a 3.5 rating but that's not an option and I don't think it was strong enough to warrant a 4. I appreciated the free valet parking as well as the excellent service! I plan to return one day to give their menu another try. We saw LOTS of yummy options being delivered to the nearby tables plus my friend's burger looked pretty dang tasty.

Great atmosphere, friendly service, diverse menu. Really enjoyed the large open air bar area overlooking the street!
The food is ok. Not bad and not excellent. I had the whole sea bass which was deboned and fried. It was in the bland side which is usually hard to do when frying food. The fried chicken liver appetizer was quite good. If you are looking for an excellent dining experience for foodies you will want to look elsewhere and likely off the island. But if you are looking for a decent meal on the beach then you found it. All about expectations.

Our food took an hour to get here, I had to wait 20 minutes to get my drink refilled, and when they brought out my burger it was under cooked to the point of falling apart and the fries were so salty it's like they dipped them in the ocean.

Maybe I was expecting too much after looking at the reviews. Great atmosphere and service. Crab beignets were good. Gnocchi was average at best. Aragula peach salad was basically a bowl Of peaches, almost no aragula. Wreck fish was decent. Great upper patio for drinks-- stick to the appetizers!

The food was pretty good. Oysters were good but way over priced! The worst part was the service. It was not very busy yet so slow. The guy kept forgetting our drinks and when reminded he would grab it and never apologize for taking 20 minutes. Will not go back.

I disagree I recently ate there and the food was extremely disappointing and very over price for what you received. Who ever is cooking should rethink the smoking because my group all complained that the food was very salty

I have been here many times and it's always great. Tonight it's just ok. I hope it's just a weird night and not a downward slide. Menu is good tonight, service from Jill ok and food was late and way way too salty and over cooked.

Sad sad experience at Salt. The iced tea was like clear sugar water. The waiter should revisit his career options. We ordered two appetizers after we discovered the item we wanted off the menu was no longer available (shrimp and grits). When the appetizers arrived we were left with 1 we never ordered, it was more than double the price of what we had ordered. When we notified the waiter of the incorrect item, there was no apology simply "do you want to order the other appetizer?"...Had to pay for both appetizers. Needless to say, we decided not to order dinner and found food somewhere else.

Wife and I sat at the bar on Friday night, service was great and the staff was super pleasant! Very good cocktails, superb appetizers! Loved the snapper crudo, was spicy with lemon and fresh herbs! Ceviche was also very good with swordfish, shrimp and avocados. Then on to the summer salad with heirloom tomatoes and watermelon, could've used a little more arugula, but I am an arugula lover, but a great salad too, then on to the pasta, which was a saffron linguini with mussels in a spicy kind of tomato based sauce....OMG! Fantastic! Then for desert, the coconut cake, a white cake with yummy coconut icing...how can you go wrong? Very nice decor, great location, parking provided...A must go to place on Sullivan's Island!

I always eat at the bar and have a few cocktails. Chuck is by far the most personable and attractive bartender that you guys have. He is like looking into the eyes of an angel while said angels pours you rumplemintz and a miller light. You guys are fantastic and I cannot wait to come back.

My family was planning on eating here on our last night in town. Previously we had only heard wonderful things about Salt and we were looking forward to it. We made reservations a week beforehand so that we could be guaranteed an outdoor table, but when we got there it turns out they gave our table away early to another large group. They then proceeded to try and seat us in the very back of the restaurant by the kitchens and we refused. We waited 25 minutes for our original table (2 four tops pushed together) and they ended up seating us at only 1 four top, making us crowd together to fit. Directly after this they told a male member of my family who was wearing a tank top that he had to put a different shirt on because of their dress code. This was the final straw so we paid for our drinks and left without eating. This was an all around horrible experience and I will never go back.

Good appetizers

(5)Tom K.
(2)Erica L.
Just ok. There are better restaurants for the food but love the location and ambiance.

Great food, great service, great prices. This place blows away everything in the vicinity away. They did a great job rehabing the place. A great place for a drink, apps and dinner... Well done! We loved it.
(5)Nixo A.
(5)Molly M.
(4)Carl M.
My girlfriend and I ate here on july 4th. I had the fish and chips (flounder) Awesome!!! large portion My girlfriend had the sword fish it was also delicious The blue crab beignets WERE to DIE FOR!!! excellent service Best food I had while on the ocean front.
(5)Ryan H.
(3)Anne B.
Great spot
(5)Roger P.

Great atmosphere and location on Sullivan's Island. If staying on IOP or Sullivan's definitely worth trying. A little pricey but overall a good place to try.
(4)Perry C.
Ok bar. The ceviche was plentiful but found the acidity of the sauce overwhelmed the flavor of the seafood.

The swordfish was amazing and OMG ....the pretzel rolls are out of this world delicious...and as always...the atmosphere and service over the top !!!!

(4)Staci B.
Almost didn't go for dinner, we'd heard mixed reviews of the food. Glad we ignored those reviews. The food and service were great. Had the tomato watermelon salad which was so unique and tasty - then shared a pizza. Was pleasantly surprised and will definitely go back.

Brand new renovation and the Food is still the BEST !! Great Island atmosphere and you will certainly enjoy the "feel" of being "from" the islands!! Boulah bread (cheese bread) is yummy !!

(5)Dan J.

Enough. Said.
(5)Jill B.
Loved the menu and beachy-fun atmosphere. I'm a small plate fan, and those at SALT are fabulous. Ingredients from local distributors and farms make everything fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend!!
(5)Ellen W.
Wonderful food! Will definitely be back.
(5)Tracy M.
(3)Haley F.
(5)Betsy M.
GO!
(5)Chris g.
(4)Linda R.
(5)Greg M.
(4)Doug C.
Outstanding food and great service provided by CJ. Wonderful atmosphere. Will return often.

(4)Ryan T.
Wasn't looking for this place, but came across it while driving around! Decided to stop and try it. It is a nice quiet little place to eat at! Enjoyed the atmosphere, and the food! The staff was also friendly and did a great job.
(4)Robert E.
(4)Leonard K.
Wreckfish was excellent. Service friendly and attentive. Cobbler and ice cream a tasty conclusion. I recommend a visit.

(5)Matthew C.
Food was OK...some in our party loved it and some didn't. However, the service was really slow. We were told by Poe's, across the street, that this was a great alternative. We disagree. We were sat in the bar area, which was not family friendly. Not impressed at all.
(2)Andrea R.
Have been dying to try. All in our party Verrrry disappointed.!! charleston prices but not quality. Don't waist you time with the crowds.
(1)Robin W.
Very good food, service and value! Make sure you try the complementary sea salt hand scrub in the restrooms! It's fab!

(4)Melissa R.
Had an early dinner and really enjoyed it. The shrimp and grits were perfect and the sushi was awesome. The artichoke and blue crab dip is cold and refreshing. The key lime pie is homemade and a must! Really reasonably priced.
(5)David J.

(4)sarah c.
(4)Melissa S.
(3)Darius K.

(1)T R.
Solid place and great, fun location. Great sushi selections although limited. Wreckfish is great - lots of fresh options. Try the Jalapeño Margarita has a kick for sure.
(4)Andrew B.
(2)Jennifer B.

(1)Les M.
(4)Angela K.

(2)Michael T.
Went for Mother's Day. The quality dropped a notch or two in my opinion.
(3)Rachel M.
We sat at the raw bar and ordered everything at the raw bar. Everything was delicious. Gene was awesome behind the bar. Great wine list. Food was excellent!
(5)April D.
What a great date night...oysters, salad, fresh caught fish and a handsome woman in front of me...this is why weekends are awesome!
(5)Doug K.
Awesome restaurant on Sullivan Island. Get the Shrimp corn dog app. It is so so good. Also they had a sushi tempura app that was to die for. For dinner get anything off the fish board and make sure to get grits as one of your two sides.
(5)Reta H.
(3)Rebekah S.
(1)Cassandra G.
(1)Alexandra R.
Barely worthy of a review. "It wasn't awful" is the nicest thing I can say. Overpriced, bland, uninspired food. Stars are for the location (primo spot on sullivans main drag).
(2)Abby H.
(5)Ashley K.
Horrible service, horrible managment, and dreadful portion sizes for the price you pay! Charleston has way to many amazing places to dine to waste your time with this disappointment!! Worst part of our trip by far!
(1)Brendan S.
Decent meal- A bit overpriced - Mediocre service Overpriced wine. If I wanted to spend 160 on dinner- I would head downtown. Get over yourself.... Boring.
(3)Rory M.
(4)Lauren R.
Nice bar and great food! I highly recommend the chicken and Mac and cheese, steak, and tile fish (when on the menu)! The calamari sauce was delicious! They were a little less than generous with the calamari though.
(4)Jonathan W.
(1)Mary S.
Amazing Sunday brunch...the seafood crepes were out of this world...crepe were light while being beyond scrumptious....blood mary special was perfect!!! Can't wait to get back for another tremendous meal:)
(5)Tim O.
(3)Jennifer B.

Pretty lousy service did it in for me. I had read some good reviews on this place. We actually went over to SI to go to another new restaurant, but they were absolutely mobbed, so we headed to "Salt" instead. I really liked the laid back, beachy feel of the restaurant. Dark wood paneling and some great vintage pics of SI. What I was not crazy about was the lack of diversity in the menu and TOO many pizza options. They don't advertise themselves as a pizzeria, but 20% of the menu on this particular evening was pizza choices. One high note was the smoked fish dip with house made potato chips. That was a winner and I would probably go back there to eat that with some drinks at the bar. I ordered the burger, which, for our table, was the most fairly priced entrée (with a fried egg on the top). That was not bad. My friends got an apple salad and split a pizza and neither received a high mark. The price points are too high for what you are getting, too. In addition, the server was inattentive at times and did not fulfill some "waitering 101" requirements, such as keeping our water glasses full and bringing two of our friends' entrees out and not bringing ours out for 5 minutes after, causing our friends to wait and their food to get cold. Nothing about this place was terrible, but there are too many good restaurants around the Charleston area that I cannot recommend this one.

Great restaurant and location. Friendly staff, great food and cocktails. Their Ceviche is one of the best I've had.
